Our loved one, Samantha Chyanne Scott, was born in Jackson, Tennessee on November 27, 1999 and passed away on February 04, 2003 at the age of 3. We will remember her forever.
Chyanne was my granddaughter who was born normally with no complications and at seven months old was diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy called Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2 Severe Type 1. This news devastated her parents Eric and Kacy Scott and all of their families. We were told that she would have a short life, but we felt that God would see us through this. We had faith that if it was His will she would be a miracle and we would have Chyanne with us longer. God did grant us two more years with her and we will always give Him the praise.
With this generic disorder Chyanne had limited use of her arms and it affected the spinal cord so she had a hard time holding her head up and could not sit alone and never walked. She gave her family so much joy and even with what faced her she never complained at all. She was my inspiration. I felt that if she could go through life and not complain my aches and pains were nothing compared to hers. Each year that God gave us was so wonderful. Chyanne was so smart and she talked early and even could count to 50 before 2 years old. She knew her ABC's and knew the words to so many children's songs that she could sing.
Just before her third birthday she was diagnosed with Neuro-Blastoma, a deadly cancer, and from there her health went down. We would make weekly visits to the hospital and she would have to have blood that sustained her. On February 4th 2003 she departed this life on earth and received a heavenly healing as she joined other angels and our heavenly Father in heaven.
This precious child touched so many lives and gave all of us a reason to live. She only wanted to get cards and stickers from people, so we put a message on the radio and television just before Christmas of 2002. Chyanne received around 10,000 cards and gifts that made her last Christmas so very special and we are so thankful to people all over the world via the internet that responded. She never asked for much and this was a gift that made her even more special. Since she received toys also, these were donated in her memory to other children who would not get anything for Christmas. We have heard from so many people that became acquainted with her and how she changed their lives so much. Thank you, God, for the blessing of her life and the legacy of her death.
Chyanne, we are now helping a child from our area and her name is Mayci. Through your foundation we hope to help this child do things she has never done before like talk, sit up, and walk; to give her a better chance at life. We have helped her family some and are looking forward to being able to send more money for their needs.
We have also started a scholarship fund in your memory at Jackson State Community College where Grannie works. Through this scholarship we will help students going into the medical field with books and tuition. Your work is still going on and we do give God the praise.
Chyanne, I heard from the grandmother of the child for whom we paid their funeral expenses. It was like hearing of your death all over again. What she shared with me was exactly the way we all felt when you passed away. Through your foundation we can help others understand how God took you home and gave you a heavenly healing. God helped us to realize how great He really is as He no longer wanted you to suffer and neither did He want this child to suffer. Help us to be there for them and to help others who are in need at this time. We will spread the word of how wonderful God is and know that you are there waiting for us. But for the time being our duty is to help others and that we will do. You are always in my thoughts.
